The Reeb Cycles Steel SST short trail bike is available to order

The Reeb Cycles SST hasn’t been a big secret, and now it’s available to order. The SST is a 120mm trail bike and Reeb says it’s the “first trail-ready indication of their investment in manufacturing experience, engineering, and aerospace materials.”

The bike uses custom steel tubing and 3D printed frame components. Reeb says, “The SST embodies the rowdy, playful character of REEB’s proven steel hardtails while providing enough suspension to hit the big lines.” The bike uses a 4-bar suspension layout combined with flex chainstays for compliance.

Reeb has incorporated more 3D printing into these bikes as it has become more cost effective, and now they plan to increase manufacturing capacity and reduce lead times. Currently, frameworks and builds are scheduled to ship from 12/2022 to 2/2023.

  • Price: $3,150 (frame only) – $9,850 (XO1 version)
  • Buy from Reeb.

Hope bets on short cranks

Shorter cranksets were all the rage last year and Hope wants to go even shorter. Hope started making shorter cranks for e-bikes years ago to increase clearance while pedaling through technology, but they also saw more benefits. After testing lengths up to 140mm, Hope says they found the 155mm length to be the sweet spot.

The brand claims that the main benefits include weight being more centered on the bike, the cranks accelerate faster, especially on steep and sudden climbs, there is more clearance and the cranks are lighter and stiffer. They also say it can change your final drive ratios and they recommend reducing chainring size by 2 teeth for every 10mm reduction in crank length.

  • Price: $320 to $365

They even have an additional heat sink at the rotor mount to cool the brakes on big descents.

  • Price: $329.95 front, $439.95 rear.
