As the summer months begin to roll into the Plains, recruiting is a major focus for Auburn’s football coaching staff after spring training. The coaches have conducted individual assessments with the players on the roster and are likely still buying the transfer portal for new talent, but the main focus is on securing the class of 2023.
Many high school recruits have begun narrowing their lists of potential schools, posting their top schools, and embarking on the home stretch of their recruiting processes. Auburn football has remained in the mix for several top prospects lately, and added another over the weekend.
4-star defensive lineman Sydir Mitchell, of Oradell, New Jersey, narrowed his school roster to nine on Sunday afternoon, and included Auburn football with Kentucky, Miami, Rutgers, Texas, Georgia , Texas A&M, LSU and Tennessee:
I want to thank all the coaches who offered me scholarships. All are blessings and I am grateful. That being said, these are the 9 schools that my family and I will be focusing on. #HookEm #GigEm #GoDawgs #GBO #BBN #CHOP #GoCanes #GeauxTigers #WarEagle pic.twitter.com/i99U3bpg5B

Mitchell is ranked 224th overall prospect and 32nd defensive lineman in the recruiting class of 2023 and is New Jersey State’s No. 3 player. He’s only been to the Plains once, and that was for the Junior Day event the Tigers hosted in March.
According to Auburn Live, Mitchell really enjoyed seeing real Auburn football practice, and has a great relationship with the Tigers defensive line coach Jimmy Brumbaugh:
“I love it, man,” Mitchell said with a smile. “He always has a smile on his face, but he’s really intense, you know, locked up in training too. He knows when it’s game time and when to be serious. I like the way he does his plans and things like that. He lets everyone have a chance in practice.
The DL is likely to take more visits before planning to make its final decision in August.
