The city of Sault Ste. Marie’s full press release is included below.

The City of Sault Ste. Marie is accepting proposals from interested parties to operate space in the newly expanded North Community Center located at 556 Goulais Avenue.

“As part of the design process, it was determined that additional space on the first and second levels would be made available to add amenities and improve the overall user experience,” said Brent Lamming, director of community services. “This could represent a great opportunity for entrepreneurs or an existing business looking to expand its services. There has been great success at the John Rhodes Community Center with tenants including a restaurant, sports training center, gymnasium and pro shop. We are thrilled to offer this opportunity to activate the new space in our community.

A total of five places are available within the establishment. Four on the second level will be available for any type of complementary trade submission and one on the main level which should be operated as a pro shop. The second level spaces can be combined within the framework of the submission.

The results of the RFP will be presented to council for approval with supporting leases. Judging criteria are based on suitability for space, business experience, hours of operation, and how the business further activates the facility. Submissions will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on June 10, 2022. Questions regarding requirements can be directed to Rob Santa Maria, Arena Manager at 705-759-5327 or email For more information
