Catamount Spring Football Showcase scheduled for Saturday


Cullowhee, North Carolina – West Carolina football wraps up annual spring drills – first under head coach Kerwin Bell – Saturday with the Spring Football Showcase, presented by UltraStar Multi-Entertainment at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort. Final team practice is scheduled to begin at noon at EJ Whitmire Stadium/Bob Waters Field and admission is free.

Saturday’s 15th spring training session will include the typical drill periods for individual position, unit and team sessions before culminating with an intrasquad scrimmage. The WCU offense will be dressed in purple jerseys over gold pants, with quarterbacks wearing the red jerseys protected as the only players not live in the scrimmage. The WCU defensive unit will be dressed in white jerseys over white pants.

The scrum, which will pit the Catamount attack against the defensive unit, will have a special scoring system to award points based on situation scenarios:

Offensive scoring – Touchdown (+6), PAT (+1), 2 point conversion (+2), Field Goal (+3), 10+ yard run (+2), 20+ yard pass (+2), Penalty (- 1)
Defensive Rating – Turnovers (+6), Turnover on Downs (+4), Sack/TFL (+3), Penalty (-1)

Season passes and game day parking for the 2022 Catamount Football Home Schedule are on sale now and can be purchased on Saturday at the Gate 1 box office during the Spring Football Showcase. Fans can also purchase tickets through the WCU Athletics Box Office, located on the first floor of the Ramsey Center, by phone at (828) 227-2401 and online at Fans can purchase tickets and parking for each of the five WCU home dates throughout the 2022 regular season. Current subscriber renewal deadline is June 1, 2022.

Additional notes:

  • Pre-game tailgating for Saturday’s Spring Football Showcase is permitted in each of the approved parking lots which include the Stadium, Field House and Creek grounds…A reminder, tailgating is do not allowed in the North Baseball Parking Deck;
  • NO GLASS beverage containers are permitted in on-campus tailgating;
  • Only the West Side (in front of the press box) the stadium stands and stadium facilities (toilets, concessions, merchandise) will be open to the public;
  • The WCU has a clear bag policy at all home athletics events… Additionally, alcoholic beverages are not permitted in the stadium;
  • Every WCU Spring Football Training is open to the public… Spectators are, however, respectfully requested to observe from the stadium seating area and avoid being on the field or on the sidelines.

  • Parking for Saturday’s Spring Football Showcase is available in lots surrounding EJ Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field, including Stadium Field, Country House Field and Creek Field
  • Parking in both Ramsey Center lots is reserved;
