Dauphin County driving range will remain open after announcing its closure

The Bumble Bee Hollow Golf Center in Lower Paxton Township will remain open.

This is a change from two months ago, when the golf center announced it would close at the end of September.

Co-owner Brandon Rogers said he discovered about a year and a half ago that there was a conservation easement on the land behind the 200-yard mark at the driving range. The designation prohibits anyone behind the 200-yard line of the driving range. The easement was put in place in 2001 by a previous owner and ended last year, but has been extended until the end of 2022.

“We ran this business this year assuming we were going to close,” he said.

Rogers said they put up a fence so the golf balls wouldn’t go over 200 yards. This closure, he said, will allow them to stay in business.

Rogers said the change in driving distance likely affects the top 10% of customers. But in the end, he said his customers were happy to stay in business after previously announcing they would have to close. Rogers said a lot of people responded to the ad.

“It’s 150% positive,” he said.

Rogers and its co-owner signed a five-year lease and plan to invest between $75,000 and $100,000 in upgrades that will include new floodlights, revamping the miniature golf course, revitalizing the pro shop and the addition of new ball launchers.

“The lights are going to allow us to be open a lot more hours and it gives people a lot more flexibility,” he said.

Rogers said he and his co-owner are very grateful to the Harrisburg community for being able to continue to run the business.

The first Bumble Bee Hollow was founded near Mechanicsburg in July 1989. This location has since closed. Bumble Bee Hollow on Linglestown Road opened in 1996.

The center is located at 4201 Linglestown Road and includes a driving range with over 50 stalls, a miniature golf course and a pro shop. The center also offers courses. Bumble Bee Hollow Golf Center is located approximately 15 minutes from downtown Harrisburg.
