Get food, toys, and winter gear at these freebies in the Flint area


GENESEA COUNTY, MI – Christmas is just around the corner and several events are planned in the Flint area for families to get free food, clothes and toys.

Christmas takes place on Saturday December 25th this year.

Ahead of the holidays, several events are planned in Flint and Genesee County to help provide members of local communities with toys and more.

Here is a summary of the events unfolding:

Holiday gift voucher

Donations with Love is hosting a holiday gift registration event from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 18 at Oak Business Center, 2712 N. Saginaw St., Flint.

The registration event is for children 5-10 years old.

Black Lives Matter-Flint and Donations with Love together with local community partners have come together for this initiative, which aims to help families in these difficult times with resources that can bring relief and boost community morale, according to a BLM press release.

Love of community at AT Fitness

The giveaway event will be held from noon to 3 pm on Tuesday, December 23 at AT Fitness, 2189 W. Coldwater Road, in the Township of Mt. Morris.

Event organizers plan to donate 300 turkeys, toys and winter clothing.

Photos of Santa Claus and autograph signing with boxing world champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields will also take place.

Annual toy driving contest

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23 at the Haskell Community Center, 2201 Forest Hill Ave., in Flint.

Children 2 to 13 years old are welcome to attend the event.

Calvin McQueen, founder of the annual event, told MLive-The Flint Journal the year before that he donated 400 to 500 toys at the rally and planned to have almost that amount this time around.

Children must be present at the event to receive the toys, McQueen noted.

“I’ve been happy here at Flint my entire life and come to realize that being in the (Greater Flint Afro-American) Hall of Fame and (an) All-American, I have to give back to the community. »Declared the founder of the event.
