LSU Football Training Report: ‘All indications’ point to return of rookie Sage Ryan | LSU

First-year defensive back Sage Ryan backed up on a drill Wednesday afternoon, then suddenly planted his foot in the grass and changed direction, running forward to finish the rep.

Ryan, a former five-star rookie, has not played in the last two games due to an undisclosed injury, but he trained in a non-contact gold jersey for the second day in a row during LSU’s open period as he gets closer to a comeback.

“We have to see how he does during the week,” Orgeron said Wednesday morning, “but at the moment everything indicates he will play.”

Ryan would give LSU depth in a exhausted high school. After recovering from a hamstring injury that had hampered him since preseason, he started against Florida and Ole Miss. Ryan made five tackles and broke two assists.

As Ryan continued to train, first-year defensive lineman Maason Smith was not present during the observation period. Smith, who could return from an injury in the final game of the regular season next weekend, had stood sideways in a non-contact jersey on Tuesday.
