Manly Sea Eagles vs Sydney Roosters, rainbow jersey, jersey controversy, live updates, SuperCoach scores, video, Daly Cherry-Evans, James Tedesco

The Roosters took an eight-zero lead after the Daniel Tupou slugging machine crossed intact at 4 Pines Park.

It came after a high tackle from debutant Alfred Smalley on Sam Verrills saw the Roosters score the first points through a penalty goal.

Fox League commentator Andrew Voss acknowledged there was “controversy early on” in the game as Smalley was allowed to remain on the pitch.

The Manly Sea Eagles will wear an ‘Everyone in the League’ jersey with rainbow detailing as they host the Sydney Roosters in a must-see clash with finals just around the corner.

Manly will be hoping to put a few controversial days behind them when they race to 4 Pines Park after seven players pulled out of the game due to personal beliefs, leaving coach Des Hasler scrambling to fill the gaps.

Jason Saab, Christian Tuipulotu, Tolu Koula, Josh Aloiai, Haumole Olakau’atu, Toafofa Sipley and Josh Schuster will miss the match.

Among the new faces of the squad are Pio Seci, Alfred Smalley and Zac Fulton, all of whom will be making their NRL debuts.

Ethan Bullemor will start at No. 2, while Morgan Boyle returns to play his first NRL game of the season.

James Segeyaro also earned a place on the bench in what will be his first game in the NRL since 2019.

In a timely boost, Jake Trbojevic, Lachlan Croker and Andrew Davey are also returning from Covid-19 protocols.

Hasler turned to his managers and promoted Martin Taupau to the starting squad in the only late change.

For the Roosters, star center Joey Manu returns, which sees Drew Hutchison return to the bench. Lindsay Collins is also back with a blow to the head, forcing Matt Lodge to the bench.

With the Roosters eighth and Manly ninth but both teams on 20 competitive points, it’s a crucial game to keep their hopes alive in the final.
