Syracuse, NY – Syracuse football continues to expand its recruiting class of 2023 as another official tour weekend comes to an end. New Jersey native Muwaffaq Parkman announced his commitment to Orange on Sunday via Twitter.
There are now six players in Syracuse’s Class of 2023, five of whom are from New York or New Jersey. Parkman, who plays running back and defensive back, joins defensive lineman Rashard Perry, tight end David Clement, linebacker Zyian Moultire-Goddard and defensive edge Jalil Smith as regional players committed to the Orange. Rounding out the class is quarterback LaNorris Sellers, a native of South Carolina.
Parkman attends Hillside High School in Hillside, New Jersey.
Parkman is also a decorated track and field athlete. He joined the sport last spring and competed in the 2021 Nike Indoor Nationals and 2022 New Balance Outdoor Nationals. He set a personal best of 11.02 seconds in the 100 meters at the Union County Championships on May 25, finishing second in the race. Parkman ran an unofficial 4.4-second 40-yard sprint during an unofficial visit to Temple in May.
Parkman has also received offers from Kent State, Temple and Massachusetts, among others.
Syracuse added two more commits this week, with more likely on the way to this weekend’s visitor contingent. Moultrie-Goddard and Smith, who both visited on June 17, announced their engagements on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
Another Orange prospect, offensive lineman Deandre Duffus, is expected to announce his contract on July 3.
The Orange have the No. 70 recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports. Syracuse extended at least one other scholarship offer to a visiting athlete this weekend, as Kansas wide receiver Bryce Cohoon announced he received one from Syracuse on Saturday.
