The big football game between the Michigan Wolverines and the Michigan State Spartans will take place this weekend in Ann Arbor. Each year, the week leading up to the game is full of excitement and rivalry before these two teams face off.
Nutrition and fitness expert Jody Trierweiler, Jason Hall with RiDetroit and comedian Mike Bonner appeared on “Live In The D” to talk with host Jason Carr about their favorite teams. Trierweiler sported green and white, while Hall and Bonner showed maze and blue for the Wolverines.
Carr started the conversation by asking if the rivalry between the Wolverines and Spartans was fun or if it was personal. Bonner, who mentioned he had been in love with Michigan since he was around 10, said it was fun and fun for him. However, Bonner said he has friends who are very serious about their team. Meanwhile, Hall said he was “getting to work.” Trierweiler spoke about her husband’s love for the Spartans. He’s an MSU alumnus, and Trierweiler said on her second date, her future husband put a note on his front door saying Michigan State lost. Trierweiler said he was trying to tell her he was “so mad” about the loss. However, Trierweiler said she was a cheerleader in college, so she will cheer no matter who loses.
Carr also asked the band if it matters whether you’re an alumnus or a fan who didn’t go to school. “They buy the jerseys, they bleed the colors, they love school, so you gotta celebrate those guys too,” Bonner said. Hall agreed and said “they’re loyal”. Trierweiler added that she thinks it’s good and you have to belong to something.
Another topic the band discussed during “What’s The Buzz” was whether they watched games with only fans of their team, or mixed and sat with both Spartans and Wolverines. Trierweiler said she would only watch the game with MSU fans. However, Hall said it takes rivalry and a mix of fans. Bonner added that he watches with a mix of fans so he can say “In your face” when they score.
