Rural Development The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced the availability of funds and applications for the Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency Improvement Loans and Grants (REAP) program. Rural Energy for America program. The program provides guaranteed loans and grants to agricultural producers and rural small businesses for renewable energy systems or to improve energy efficiency.
Who can apply?
Agricultural producers with at least 50 percent of gross income from farms, and
· Small enterprises
Note: Farm producers and small businesses should not have any past due federal taxes, debts, judgments or exclusions.
How can the funds be used?
The funds can be used for renewable energy systems, such as:
Biomass (for example: biodiesel and ethanol, anaerobic digesters and solid fuels)
Geothermal energy for electricity production or direct use
Hydroelectricity less than 30 megawatts
Small and large wind power generation
Small and large solar production
Oceanic generation (tide, current, thermal)
The funds can also be used for the purchase, installation and construction of energy efficiency improvements, such as:
High efficiency heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
Cooling or refrigeration units
·Doors and windows
Electric, solar or gravity pumps for sprinkler pivots
Switching from a diesel to electric irrigation engine
Replacement of energy-intensive equipment
What funding is available?
Loan guarantees on loans up to 75 percent of total eligible project costs
Grants up to 25 percent of total eligible project costs (this is a reimbursement after installation / construction – applicants do not receive this reimbursement up front.)
Combined funding of grants and loan guarantees up to 75 percent of total eligible project costs
Time limit :
* Applications for grants of $ 20,000 or less and / or loans / grants of $ 20,000 or less Combined applications – October 31, 2018 or April 1, 2019
* Unrestricted Grant Applications and / or Combined Loan / Unrestricted Grant Applications – April 1, 2019
* Energy audit and subsidies for the development of renewable energies-Jan. 31, 2019
* Secured loans – Continuous demand cycle
